Tulsa has a significant number of traffic accidents every year. According to the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety’s Highway Safety Office, there were 10,364 car crashes in Tulsa during 2011. As Tulsa increases in population, car crashes and collisions are becoming a more significant problem for motorists who use Tulsa’s streets and highways.

Traffic collisions in Tulsa accounted for 21.5% of fatal car crashes that took place in Oklahoma cities with a population more than 5,000, according to the public safety study. There were a total of 2,097 injury accidents in Tulsa. Although the majority of the car crashes did not result in permanent injuries, approximately one of every five did cause incapacitating harm to a driver or passenger.

Timing is also an important factor because the busier traffic, the more accidents take place. More Tulsa traffic wrecks take place during rush hour between 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. than at any other time of day.

Friday was the most dangerous day of the week on Tulsa’s roads, with a total of 1,880 car accidents. Tuesday ranked as second most dangerous, with a total of 1,692 recorded traffic collisions on that day of the week during 2011.
