Four Dead in Oklahoma Motorcycle, Tractor Trailer, and Pedestrian Accidents

Four Oklahomans died in traffic accidents in just two days. Wednesday, July 17 and Thursday, July 18 were particularly deadly days on Oklahoma’s roads, highlighting how drivers, motorcyclists, and pedestrians need to be cautious at all times.

The first accident claimed the life of a 52-year-old Lawton attorney who was a respected and beloved member of the community. The attorney, who was riding a motorcycle, collided with a pickup when the truck’s driver failed to yield when crossing the highway. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the hospital after the motorcycle crash, and a female passenger was left in critical condition. Neither the driver nor the passenger on the motorcycle was wearing a helmet.

A 54-year-old woman from Ratliff City, Oklahoma was killed on July 17 when a driver veered off the roadway and hit her. Coker was walking on the side of Highway 76 when a driver struck and killed her. Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) officers are investigating the cause of the accident.

When interviewed about the car accident that took Ms. Coker’s life, OHP State Trooper Ken Duncan said, “In the course of the investigation on scene, we saw things that led us to believe there may have been a level of intoxication and we had blood drawn that is going to be sent to OBSI lab.”

The second traffic fatality took place July 18, when a man was struck and killed by a tractor trailer in Oklahoma City while crossing Interstate 240 on foot. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

In another pedestrian accident, a 32-year-old man was struck and killed by a pickup truck in the early morning hours of July 18.  The man was apparently lying on the roadway on U.S. 377 near Connerville, Oklahoma when a passenger truck hit and killed him. Authorities are investigating why Tyson was lying on the highway.
