Family Friendly Halloween Activities in Oklahoma City
If you are looking for family friendly Halloween activities in Oklahoma City and the surrounding area, here are five activities we believe will put a smile on your face, and also help get you in the Halloween mood:
Orr Family Farm
The Orr Family Farm is a popular destination for kids of all ages. Open seven days a week during October, this farm is far more than just a traditional working farm. The Orr Family Farm has a restored carousel and a replica of the famous Jupiter train for guests to ride. It also has a four-lane zip line, pedal cars, and giant jumping pillows, as well as a number of other activities. Guests can also enjoy pony rides, milking a cow, picking pumpkins, going through a corn maze or panning for gems.
For those of you who are looking for activities that are more competitive, the farm has “Zombie Apocalypse Paintball” between the hours of 8-11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday. There is no paintball on Halloween night. But the farm will be open on October 31st from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Oklahoma Railway Museum
For those who are interested in riding the rails, the Oklahoma Railway Museum has a Halloween Train that is fun for the whole family. The train makes only four trips on Saturday, October 25th, so book early. Departure times are 9:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. Guests are encouraged to come in costume. Tickets are $15 for guests ages 15 and older. If you come in costume, you will receive a $2.00 discount on your ticket. Tickets for children between the ages of 3 to 14 are $5.00 and children under the age of three may ride for free. Advance tickets go on sale Oct. 6.
Haunt the River Cruise
Haunt the River Cruise for kids departs from Regatta Park and Exchange Landing each Saturday in October. Children compete in a costume contest and receive candy, activity books and watch spooky cartoons. The cruises depart at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. from Regatta Park and 2:40 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. from Exchange Landing. Click here for ticket information about the Kids Haunt the River cruise. There are also adult Haunted cruises in the evenings that are ideal for those costumed party-goers who are interested in finding a new place to eat, drink and dance the night away. Reservations are required so you are advised to reserve your ticket early.
Haunt the Zoo for Halloween
This year is the Oklahoma City Zoo’s 31st Annual Haunt the Zoo for Halloween event. This is a family-friendly event in which guests of all ages can have fun trick-or-treating at the zoo between the hours of 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. The event runs from Sunday, October 26th through Friday, October 31st. Advance tickets are available online for $6, while tickets at the gate will be sold for $7. Each trick-or-treater will receive a treat bag to collect goodies. Parents or accompanying adults will be admitted for free. All trick-or-treaters can stop at the fantasy-themed booths along the Halloween trail and receive treats from volunteers.
Those who have other trick-or-treating plans can still enjoy the decorations, as well as the Haunt the Zoo Exhibit located in the ZooZeum, during normal hours of operation.
Arcadia Lake’s Storybook Forest
The Storybook Forest is one of the area’s most popular Halloween-themed destinations. It’s located just east of the Oklahoma City suburb of Edmond. This year, the Storybook Forest at Arcadia Lake’s Spring Creek Park will be open to visitors between the hours of 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. from Thursday, October 23rd through Thursday, October 30th. The not-so-scary Storybook Forest is ideal for families with children 10 years of age and under. Kids are encouraged to dress in costume and will have an opportunity to trick-or-treat and collect candy from some of the more classic fairy tale characters. Admission is $8 per child; accompanying adults are free. Advance tickets can be purchased for $6 online. In addition to trick-or-treating, guests can go on hayrides, play games, roast hot dogs or marshmallows (food items are extra), listen to stories around a campfire and many other activities.
Keeping Your Children Safe on Halloween
No matter what activities you and your family plans to do this October, it is important you take safety precautions, particularly when taking kids out trick-or-treating. The last thing you want is a fun day of Halloween activities to end with an injury.
